Instructions for New Members

GENERAL:

Hi, and thanks for visiting whatstrings.com! We've tried to provide a very special place where guitar players of every genre can get together in many different ways, and on many different levels, Here is where you can share your thoughts, your expertise, your work and experiences, and, yes - even tell each other what strings you're using! Since the site offers so many resources and places to go, it can definitely be a bit daunting for first-timers, but it will surely become much easier after just a couple of visits. I've created this basic help file to get you started. Of course, trying out various areas of the site yourself will probably be your best guide.

Please take a few moments to explore the navigation bar, located just under our logo on every page, as this will reveal most of what is available to you. Although there are some things you can do as a visitor, you will want to register in order to participate and take full advantage of our resources.

As a new site, there will probably be a few areas that don't work as well as they should, and if you happen to encounter any problems, I hope you will make me aware of them. If you need any help or have any questions about this site, please feel free to email me. Have a great time!

Thanks,

Jeff Singer
Webmaster

Submitting Articles:

This is the nucleus of the site, the core focus, and the main reason for its creation. You are encouraged to submit "ARTICLES" of various types, such as your string preferences and string reviews. You can also submit articles - on any topic - that you think might be of interest to other members. Read "About Our Article Database" below, for more information.

How:
Select a category from the WHAT STRINGS? drop-down menu or select READ ARTICLES or SUBMIT ARTICLES from the ARTICLES drop-down menu (either will bring you to the same place). Select the appropriate category, and if you look around, you will find what you are looking for. Again, you MUST select (JUMP to) the appropriate category BEFORE doing anything else. These menu titles will probably change in the near future as we come up with better metaphors, but for now, they are self-explanatory, easy to find, and they work! Check back here in the future if titles change and you can't find what you are looking for.

About Our Artice Database:

All articles are kept in the Article database. Once you submit articles, others will want to read them, and you will want to read theirs, as well. So, when you're in the mood to read or write, just visit our Article database! Currently, we have three categories of articles in the Article database. They are:

Members' Choice - Members' submissions, revealing what strings they prefer to use, and on what instruments.Submit your own reviews of strings you've used, for better or for worse (one string set per article, please).

Artist Rumors - If you've heard a rumor, or read an interview with a well-known artist, please share with everyone. We all want to know WHAT STRINGS they use!

Random Thoughts - Here is where you can submit articles on almost any topic, as long as you feel your article will be of interest to other members. Submit a tech tip or gig advice, or anything else you like, and it will be published for all to see! Over time, I will add additional categories, either from member suggestions or as the number and variety of articles warrant. All articles are subject to approval and editing. Naturally, anything submitted with overtly offensive or adult content will be removed and, generally speaking, so will be the user.

IMPORTANT - All articles will be reviewed and are subject to editing prior to actual publication on our pages. We hope to review articles every day, though it might take a bit longer at times, so please be patient while waiting for your article to appear. We do this only because past experience on other sites has proven that if we don't see what's coming in before we publish it, we will surely be hacked with adult ads and harmful scripts.

Once you submit an article, you will not be able to edit it, so please check your article before saving it. If you wish to remove an article, you must make a request to the admin, via the contact menu on the navigation bar.
